Redrow site manager Elliot Burns has scooped not just one award, but two at Dukes Manor in Walkden, near Worsley.
Elliot, 40, was quick to express his delight at the praise being heaped upon him – but even quicker to acknowledge it's not just for him, but his team.
He said: “I have got a great group of lads who have worked with me now for about four or five years. They look after me and I look after them. I can't do what I do without them, so it's as much their reward for their hard work as it is mine.”
Elliot, from Leyland, has received a commendation in the 2016 NHBC Health and Safety Awards – and will now go forward to the national finals in Birmingham on July 8.
And, if that wasn't enough reason to celebrate alone, he has also been named one of 24 Redrow site managers to be awarded NHBC's Pride in the Job 'Quality' award too.
“I got my first Pride in the Job Award last year and it took four and a half years to get that,” said Elliot. “To get the two awards this year is even better because health and safety and pride in the job go hand in hand.”
As well as the national finals of the Health and Safety Awards next month, Elliot will go forward to compete in the next level of the Pride in the Job awards this autumn, when he will be hoping to collect a coveted 'Seal of Excellence'.
The NHBC Health and Safety Awards are the UK's only health and safety awards aimed solely at home builders and are designed to recognise the very best in that area, and help drive up standards in the industry by showcasing and sharing best practice.
A record 61 first round winners, including five Redrow developments and their site managers, will go through to the finals when they’ll discover if they’ve won a higher award – highly commended, national runner-up and overall winner.
Among them, Elliot, who has worked for Redrow for 20 years. The father of three said: “I have worked on too many sites to remember but the important thing is to do my job well because that care and commitment shows in the quality of the product. If we do our job well then we build quality homes that people can trust and that is what it is all about.
“I'm hopeful and positive that we can upgrade both awards to a higher level, but let's see. To be recognised for doing our jobs well is enough.”
Highlighting excellence in the field for 35 years, Pride in the Job is dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in housebuilding. Around 15,000 site managers undergo the judging process in small, medium, large and specialist housebuilder categories and Elliot is one of only 430 to receive a Quality award.
Judging began 12 months ago and includes spot checks of the day-to-day running of sites, plus assessment across 38 areas of site management, including each manager’s technical knowledge, consistency in the build process, leadership and organisational skills.
Keith Collard, construction director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), says: “Redrow takes pride in building better homes so people can enjoy better lives. But it starts when we start building and with people like Elliot. The pride and care he and his team take in their work means we can offer people beautiful homes they can be proud of, from a company they can trust.”
Dukes Manor is a highly sought-after development of three and four-bedroom homes from Redrow’s Arts & Crafts inspired Heritage Collection just seven miles from the heart of Manchester.
