Developer Redrow has scored a victory with Garstang Sports Club after stumping up a cash boost for its junior cricket and rugby sections.
The builder behind Canal View, in Garstang, has donated £500 to be shared by the two sports at the popular club, enabling them to tackle the constant need for more equipment.
Garstang Sports Club has been able to invest in four wobble boards (to help develop balance), three wrist weights, three medicine balls and a marker set for its young cricketers; and five balls, 12 bibs and a junior tackle tube for its rugby players.
And no-one is more delighted than Mick Richardson, the club’s chairman. Mick says: “We are absolutely thrilled. The donation from Redrow Homes has bought training equipment for our young sports stars which is absolutely vital.
“The money it costs to run a club like ours is amazing and we are constantly looking to small local businesses for sponsorship, but to get such a boost from a big company like Redrow is fabulous.”
Mick says although the cricket season has now finished, it was usual for the cricket section to get up to 60 young people turning up to train at the club on a Friday evening, and between 100-130 rugby players every Sunday.
He adds: “Not all these young people will get to play for the first and second teams, but it’s about them all taking up a sport to keep them fit and healthy, it’s about giving them discipline and it’s about them having fun.
“The club and its sports sections are very much parent-led and play an integral part in the local community and the future of sports in the Garstang area. So we are grateful and indebted to Redrow for such generous help.”
Mark Yates, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), says the company is happy to pick up the ball and run for such a popular club.
“Redrow is not just about building homes, it is about building communities like those in Garstang, and sports clubs play a vital part for communities and the people who live in, and contribute to, them.
“Those who attend Garstang Sports Club will include Redrow residents, current and future; and for their benefit – and that of others – we are delighted to contribute.”
