Children build on safety skills

Children learned an important lesson in staying safe when Redrow’s health and safety mascot Buster Bear visited a Lancashire school.

Buster Bear was joined at Trinity Church of England/Methodist Primary School at Buckshaw Village, near Chorley, by Redrow’s health and safety manager David Ford.

David explained: “Buckshaw Village is now well established as a community and as construction work is ongoing we felt it was important to visit the local school to tell children about the importance of health and safety issues surrounding building sites. Construction sites may look fun, but they aren’t playgrounds and can be dangerous. If a child goes onto a building site what may seem like harmless fun could lead to a terrible accident causing serious injury or worse.”

During the visit, children from year two (six and seven-year-olds) were taught about the hazards on a building site. They were also told why it’s vital for staff and visitors to site to wear health and safety equipment and the children were able to try on items such as high visibility jackets and hard hats.

Afterwards the children were asked to produce health and safety posters showing what they had learned.

Teacher Marcus Elliott commented: “We’re grateful to Redrow for giving children such an important lesson to help them stay safe. Buster Bear helped to make the lesson fun and the children really enjoyed meeting him. They’ve all been putting their artistic talents to good use to design their posters.”

It’s safe to say that the homes from Redrow’s New Heritage Collection at Buckshaw Village have been appealing to homebuyers. Between The Village Green, The Orchards and Sandy Lane phases there’s a good range of properties available, with prices ranging from £85,000 to £541,995.
