Teenage footballing sensation Kai Hardcastle has landed himself a ‘dream’ sponsorship deal with Redrow Homes just in time for the new season.
The Connah’s Quay protégé, whose work ethic and knack for scoring goals have earned him favourable comparisons with compatriot Gareth Bale, is currently a member of the national Welsh development squad as well as Wrexham FC’s footballing academy.
It’s a deal that should keep Kai, 13, with The Dragon’s until 2014, after the club announced that all their youth players would need to be individually sponsored to help fund the Youth Department.
Andy Davies, Wrexham FC’s head of youth, said the deal was “great news for Kai and great news for the club”.
“It’s fantastic to have Redrow come and sponsor a player like Kai, a player we really want to keep hold of and maybe bring through to the first team one day. This is a hugely talented player who scores goals, works hard every day and he’s only 13.”
Kai, who’s currently studying at Connah’s Quay High School, said he was “made up and delighted” to have Redrow sponsor him.
“This will mean I’m able to keep progressing and playing football for Wrexham - the club I support and love.”
The partnership became possible after Kai’s mum Anthea approached a number of potential sponsors for her son. And even if the deal is bound to equal even more kit-washing and taxi-driving for her, she revealed she couldn’t be happier.
“I’m very pleased because Redrow was right at the very top of my list of potential sponsors,” she said. “Kai has such fantastic potential and I just don’t know where we’d be without the funding.
“Hopefully now he’ll just be able to kick on and keep doing what he does best – working hard and scoring goals for the team he loves.”
Support for local athletes and sports teams is all part of Redrow’s commitment to the communities in which it builds.
And, as well as building quality new homes, the company contributes millions of pounds each year to local services, including roads, public transport, education, parks and open space.
Redrow is building locally at Heritage Park, in Penymynydd, Heathlands, in Buckley and its newest development Gladstone Leigh, in Hawarden.
