Young Flintshire first aiders sport new attire thanks to Redrow

A group of young Deeside first aiders are now dressed the part thanks to a donation from housebuilder Redrow.

The Ewloe-based company funded a set of new uniforms for the cadets, all aged between 10 and 18, based at the St John Ambulance Deeside Division, on Fairfield Road, Queensferry.

Group leader Kayleigh Wheeler said: “We’d like to thank Redrow for its generous contribution. We don’t receive any government funding and rely on donations like this from businesses and the public, in addition to the small fees we charge to provide first aid cover for local events, to operate.

“Donations help us to stay local and continue to train young people in vital lifesaving skills.”

Jason Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), said: “St John Ambulance Deeside is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who provide an invaluable service to the Flintshire community. We are very proud to support them and the work they are doing to train young cadets.”

The Deeside division is part of St John Cymru Wales, which provides opportunities and development programmes for individuals aged five to 25. These programmes help teach vital lifesaving first aid skills, provide a place to create friendships and opportunities for exciting new challenges.

St John Cymru Wales is a major youth organisation, with over half of its 4,500 volunteers under the age of 18, and individuals can sign up to be a Badger or a Cadet.

Redrow itself has a proud health and safety record. Last year the company was shortlisted for a St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes Award for its efforts to place more than 100 lifesaving defibrillators at sites across England and Wales. It also received a special commendation at the NHBC Health and Safety Awards for the same initiative.

The developer was singled out for recognition for the scheme, which gives staff, contractors and the local community access to the equipment in the event of a medical emergency.
