Redrow dash to give running club cash

WHEN Barton and District Athletic Club asked for sponsorship to help stage its annual cross country event Redrow raced at the chance to support the club.

The housebuilder donated £250 towards the cost of running the event and provided hats as prizes for the first five to finish each of the nine races.

More than 350 competitors took part in the cross country races at Baysgarth Park. They were put under starter’s orders by the housebuilder’s health and safety mascot Buster Bear. Buster even joined in with the one mile fun run!

Mark Nettleton, from Barton and District Athletic Club, commented: “This was the 33rd year we’ve staged the cross country event and it gets bigger and better each year. As it has grown so has the cost of staging the races and we’re extremely grateful to Redrow for their sponsorship. The event went really well and everyone really enjoyed it. The younger participants were delighted to meet Buster Bear and run alongside him.”

Open to runners aged eight to 80 the cross country event comprised nine races covering distances ranging from 1.25 miles to six miles.

The start line for the races was just a short journey away from Redrow’s Fox’s Fold development in Tofts Road.

Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), said: “We were delighted to be able to support Barton and District Athletic Club by sponsoring the cross country event. It was fantastic to see so many runners of all ages and ability taking part.”
