Make Your New Home in Cambridge a Redrow New Build

Cambridge has a cobbled market square and unparalleled high street shopping. The retail centre extends through a diverse range of shopping quarters, including the renowned Grand Arcade. There’s St. Ives nearby too, with Peterborough also just 40 miles away, adding more options if you enjoy an occasional shopping spree. There are also market towns like Ely, March and Littleport close to hand. These locations hold weekly farmers’ markets, which represent another great example of how Cambridge blends both old and new atmospheres.

For those who enjoy Heritage attractions, Cambridge can be overwhelming in terms of what it offers! There’s the Museum of Cambridge, and the famous Wren Library, which has a wide range of books and manuscripts. But that’s just the start. You can see the iconic King’s College Chapel for yourself, which is a great experience for those who enjoy watching the regular carol services on TV at Christmastime. Then there’s the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Bridge of Sighs, the University Museum of Zoology, the Museum of Classical Archaeology, the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the University Botanic Garden and Cambridge Science Centre. You could easily live in Cambridge for years and not have time to experience all of the history that it brings to hand.

If you’re more of an active sort, or enjoy a picturesque walk, then there are plenty of places to visit too. Milton Country Park, Wandlebury Country Park, Midsummer Common, Coldham’s Harbour and Byron’s Pool are all great choices. All told, the only difficulty comes from deciding what you want to enjoy visiting first, and then planning your journey there.

There’s a large cycling community in Cambridge, and it’s certainly a great way to get around this picturesque city’s various points of interest. There’s also a heavy local emphasis on walking and the park and ride service. That said, there are plenty of other transport links too. The train station is close to the city centre, and the beginning of the M11 is as well. This means you can respectively get to London within 55 minutes or in around 1 hour and 15 minutes. The train from Cambridge runs directly to London King’s Cross and London Liverpool Street. Nearby Peterborough adds even more connections, with the hub that is Birmingham New Street less than 2 hours away from Peterborough station.

If you want to travel even further afield, then either a train or a car journey will get you from Cambridge to London Stansted Airport in under an hour. In fact, Cambridge sits at approximately the halfway point between London and Birmingham airports, giving you a choice of options for overseas travel.

Perfectly-Placed New Homes Across Cambridgeshire

Away from the city, the wider county of Cambridgeshire has borders with Bedfordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Suffolk. Across the county you’ll find a variety of lovely towns and affluent villages. This means that you can enjoy whatever lifestyle you want - rural or urban - whilst still depending on brilliant commuting networks.

Across Cambridgeshire, you’ll find plenty of outstanding areas of natural beauty. Grafham Water and Wicken Fen are well worth exploring, and then there’s the River Cam itself. Here, you can learn to punt a boat! As if Cambridge city didn’t offer enough, there’s also a patchwork of other curiosities and sites of historical interest. For example, Ely is the site of Oliver Cromwell’s historic lodging, while Duxford is home to the Imperial War Museum.

It’s not all about days out though, as Cambridgeshire is fantastic for educational opportunities for your kids too. There are around 300 state schools and 12 independents, so you’ll never be far away from some excellent options. And for the commuters among us, there’s the A1 (M), M11, A11 and A10 that offer great routes to London, Norwich, East Anglia and the Midlands.
