With office Christmas celebrations unable to take place as usual this year due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, we’ve decided to use the funds set aside for a very special cause, and will be donating to the NSPCC through the Xmas Party Heroes project.
Charities across the UK have received a significant drop in funding this year with large scale fundraising events – such as the London marathon – not able to take place as usual. A report by the Chartered Institute of Fundraising (IoF) and Charity Finance Group (CFG) found that charities are expecting an average 24% reduction in funding this year – equating to a £12.4 billion loss of income for good causes as a whole.
Christmas is usually a particularly significant time of year for charities fundraising efforts, so to combat some of the loss, Xmas Party Heroes has been set up to help businesses redirect unused Christmas party budgets to charities in need.
Although the project has only been up and running for just over a week, £1m has already been raised by businesses across the UK. We’ve chosen to direct our funds to the NSPCC, who have reported a significant rise in child abuse cases this year, with more children stuck at home. The funding will go towards services and activities to make children and young people safer. This includes working with children and families, our helplines, schools service and child protection and awareness campaigns.
Karen Jones, our HR Director, commented: “The Coronavirus pandemic has significantly impacted businesses across the UK, however charities are some of the hardest hit, leaving those in who rely on their support more vulnerable than ever.
“As a businesses we wanted to take action to support the communities up and down the country that we build in, and by teaming up with Xmas Party Heroes to donate to the NSPCC we hope we can make some impact on children’s lives this Christmas.”
