Will there be wallpaper that changes colour depending on our mood, or a bathroom that cleans itself? Perhaps homes will have convertible roofs like cars for those hot summer nights when an open window just isn’t enough! Could there be robot butlers to keep the home clean and tidy?
To help us plan our future homes, we’re calling on children, aged four to 16, across England and Wales to help us in our design stage. That’s why we’ve created ‘Archi-tot’ vacancies across the regions which are waiting to be filled with the creative talent of the future.
As well as an individual prize of £100, each winning Archi-tot’s school or college will also receive £150 in artwork vouchers. The winners will also see their design planted in a time capsule in the ground at their nearest Redrow development, ready to be unearthed fifty years from now.
So get thinking! Those ready for the challenge have until midnight on Friday 17th May to submit their entries and be in with a chance of being named a Redrow Archi-tot of the future. Regional winners will be announced, with an overall winner decided later this year after designs are put to the public for a final decision.
Tom Roberts, Head of Communications, said:
“In our 50th year of housebuilding, we’re looking to the future by calling on England and Wales’s most creative young talent to imagine what a home will look like in 2074. From self-tinting windows to robot gardeners who mow the lawn, we’re looking for the most adventurous and ambitious designs suitable for a family living in 2074 while being energy efficient and built sustainably. Here at Redrow, we’re committed more than ever to bringing young people into the construction sector and are recognised by the industry for our training excellence and apprenticeship programme. What better way to celebrate the creative talent of local youngsters and showcase the wonderful imagination and creative abilities of the next generation? Who knows, we could even put in a good word for the winner to become one of our new apprentices where they might find themselves building their design one day! We can't wait to see the designs!”
