Congleton community fund helps 11 good causes

A basketball team, a social supermarket and street pastors are just three of the charities being supported by Redrow’s latest £10,000 community fund.

Linked to our Round Hill Gardens development, off Manchester Road, this is the fourth fund that the developer has launched in Congleton since 2018.

Reflecting the current times, some donations will help organisations continue to support the local community on tight budgets as well as peer support networks. For example, help has been extended to a local social supermarket who provide a wide variety of nutritious foods that members can purchase for as little as £5; while a domestic abuse charity will be able to expand its current service offer in Congleton to include monthly facilitation of a peer support network.

The money has also been given to a charity that uses funds to buy books with the aim of helping primary schools educate children about racism and anti-racism and a start-up women’s basketball team.

Amanda Hollins, area sales manager at Redrow North West says: “This time round, we had some really unique groups applying for funding. The money will be used to continue to provide some fantastic services to the local community that will help all generations.”

The beneficiaries of the latest fund are:

  • Dive In Education
  • Dane Valley Scout Group
  • Friends for Leisure
  • Friends of Congleton Park
  • Congleton Grizzlies Basketball Club
  • Havannah Primary School
  • The Green Tree House Charity
  • Cheshire Without Abuse My CWA
  • Congleton Street Pastors
  • CHOC (Congleton and Holmes Chapel) Care Community
  • Congleton Town Council’s Christmas Tree

Ryan Anderson, club treasurer and head coach at the Congleton Grizzlies Basketball Club, said: "Since we rebranded in March 2021, Congleton Grizzlies has worked tirelessly to create a club the community could be proud of. The growth of the club over the past year is phenomenal, with the club entering a senior men’s team as well as two junior boys’ teams into leagues for the first time in almost 30 years."

"The Redrow fund helps the club not only continue its work with senior men who play basketball, but also expand its network and create a great opportunity for women to get involved as well.

"With the recent success of the England women’s football team, on top of the global push for women’s sport, the Grizzlies want to join the fight for equal opportunities for women and the funding from Redrow allows us to do this. We cannot thank Redrow enough for the funding."

Round Hill Gardens will eventually include 454 new homes and will feature a wide selection of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five-bedroom houses. Areas of the site are earmarked for a new primary school, 12.5 acres of open space and local shops.
