Little Sutton children get set to grow

2nd August 2023
Redrow - News - Little Sutton children get set to grow

A primary school in Little Sutton has been gifted everything pupils need to create their own kitchen garden.

We have donated a class growing kit to nearby Little Sutton CofE Primary School, which will be used to plant fruit and vegetables in the school grounds.

As part of our Get Set Grow initiative, the gardening equipment, seeds and planters have been provided to several schools across the North West to encourage children to grow their own food and establish an interest in the outdoors from an early age.

Zoe Carciero, executive principal at the school, said: “The children have really enjoyed practicing their gardening skills with the new kits. They love outdoor learning and have been enthusiastic to grow their own food. We’re grateful to Redrow for supplying everything we needed to start this project and look forward to enjoying some freshly grown vegetables at school soon.”

Included in the kits are bamboo plant pots, watering cans, cotton gardening gloves fork, trowel and rake sets and a host of rainbow vegetable seeds from peas, carrots and radishes to courgettes, cucumbers and tomatoes.

Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director for Redrow (NW), said: “Get Set Grow is a new initiative and we’ve really enjoyed working with local schools across the North West to deliver the growing kits.

“The children at Little Sutton CofE Primary School have been really keen to get outdoors and grow their own fresh produce. We’re pleased this equipment has been so useful and hope it can be used every year. Outdoor learning is a great way for pupils to practice new skills and connect with the natural world, which also boosts health and wellbeing.”

Ledsham Garden Village will eventually be a community of 2,000 homes off Ledsham Road. Alongside the new properties, it will also be home to a new shop, community building, allotments, meadow parkland, and an orchard.
