Local councillors were invited to join an official ground-breaking ceremony with us and Conlon Construction, who will build the school.
The primary school is due to be completed in time for the start of the 2022/23 academic year.
It will include eight classrooms, plus areas for outdoor play including both hard and soft landscaped playgrounds. The eight classrooms will have adaptable uses and there will also be a library, specialist teaching areas and school hall.
Councillor John McGahan commented: “As Ward Councillors Mike Hurleston, Brian Bagnall and I are delighted to see the construction of Woodford Garden Village’s school being underway. The addition of the new school will be welcomed by parents and will become a hub for the local community. We look forward to its completion and opening next year.”
We have plans for circa 920 new homes at Woodford, of which around 380 are already being lived in.
Jason Newton, managing director for the North West said: “The primary school is an integral part of our plans for Woodford Garden Village, alongside other key elements such as a new public house, planned shops and multiple play and park areas. They will serve residents of our development and also the wider Woodford community.”
The contract to build the school has been awarded to Preston-based Conlon Construction.
Michael Conlon, chairman, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this project to build a much-needed school for this growing new community. We will do our utmost to be ‘good neighbours’ throughout the project and will provide regular updates on our progress via newsletters to local people.”
Sensitively replacing the site of the old Woodford Aerodrome, our development is the first garden village of its kind to be built in the north of England for decades. The sensitive blueprint combines 920 new homes with a retirement / extra care facility, a pub, shops and an extensive network of green spaces including children’s play areas, cycle pathways, parks, meadows and extensive tree planting.
