Usborne Books’ campaign aims to provide elderly residents with creative activities to improve mental health and wellbeing during lockdown. With a donation target of £1,000, we felt compelled to support the wellbeing of the elderly residents Usborne Books is helping and donated a lump sum to kickstart the campaign.
The fundraiser was set-up by ex-occupational therapist, Sally Thomas, who is now working with Usborne Books. Sally came-up with the idea to start a fundraiser to support the elderly living in care homes in the area, as she was conscious that many of them will feel lonely due to the ongoing pandemic and lockdown because of restrictions on visits from family and loved ones.
When asked about our donation and the fundraising campaign, Sally Thomas said: “I decided I'd set up a fundraiser to raise money to buy some creative activities to cheer up some residents from several local care homes in the Gloucester region.
“We are so grateful to Redrow Homes for supporting the cause as it is important for us to do all that we can to support the older generations at this time. As an ex occupational therapist, I know the benefits that meaningful occupation and creative activities can have on improving our mental health, which Redrow’s contribution will help us arrange.”
Libby Bolton, sales manager in the South West, said: “We are aware how important it is to offer support the elderly, especially during this on-going pandemic.
“There are many things we can do now to keep on top of our own mental wellbeing and support others while socially distanced. The fundraiser Sally set up is a wonderful idea and we are more than happy to offer our support.”
