A site manager has received the Seal of Excellence Award at the NHBC’s annual Pride in the Job Awards 2020 for the South West.
A regular winner over the years, Steve Damerell is well respected throughout the industry. Steve currently oversees our Potters Lea development, located in Kingsteignton.
The first round of the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards sees 16,000 site managers competing for the Quality award and this year’s 450 Quality Award winners were hand-picked for their excellent standards on site. After 12 months of rigorous judging, the first-round winners went on to compete for the Seal of Excellence Awards and Regional Winner titles.
The accomplishments of the Quality Award winners in the South West were celebrated online this year, with a virtual ceremony hosted on YouTube. After being entertained by comedian Andrew Ryan, regional director Nick Cunningham announced the Seal of Excellence and Regional Award winners. The panel of independent judges were impressed by the leadership skills shown by the winners, evidenced by the morale and teamwork shown on the sites throughout the South West, during a difficult year.
Steve, who has worked with us for just under six years, said: “It always feels great to win a Pride in the Job award as it is recognition of the whole team’s effort to build homes of the highest quality.
“Winning the award is all about consistency and organisation. Ensuring consistently high build quality throughout each stage of construction, whilst also maintaining good organisation and planning so that materials are delivered on time and trades have clear programmes of work.
“Covid-19 has presented some real challenges for us on site, mainly keeping everyone safe both physically and mentally.
“Certain manufacturers are having difficulties getting sufficient materials to us due to a sharp increase in demand following the initial lockdown. We manage these challenges by adhering to strict government guidelines and effective communication between all parties.”
Lee Hawker, managing director in the South West, said: “A massive congratulations to Steve on his Seal of Excellence award win, just a month before his sixth anniversary with Redrow. It is amazing to be have such a regular winner within the South West team.
“The NHBC has a very rigorous judging process and only the best in the business receive the Seal of Excellence award, making Steve’s win even more impressive and truly reflective of his consistent hard work.
“For Redrow, achieving award-winning standards of construction provides further evidence that we’re producing a quality product, year after year.”
