A site manager has received a prestigious National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Quality Award for a development in Leighton Buzzard.

Alan Cooke received the award for excellence in on-site management at Redrow Homes South Midlands’ Leestone Park, on Heath Road.

In existence for 40 years, the NHBC’s Pride in the Job scheme is dedicated to recognising the industry’s very best performers and is a prestigious accolade that site managers aspire to achieve.

To receive an award, site managers must score highly in all areas of build and site management including quality of workmanship, technical expertise, health and safety and leadership. Judges look for meticulous attention to detail and the special qualities and attributes that set quality, award-winning site managers apart from the rest.

Alan has worked for us for 13 years, starting as a labourer before working his way up the ranks, winning his first Pride in the Job Quality Award for his work as site manager at Riverview, in Barton Seagrave, in 2016. He started working at Leestone Park in January 2019, returning to site management after 18 months as area construction manager.

Suzanne Irons, sales director for our South Midlands division, said: “Alan’s passion and determination is reflected in every home built at our Leestone Park development, and we’re thrilled that his hard work has been recognised by the NHBC.

“The Pride in the Job Award is something all site managers want to win, so to receive two really is a wonderful achievement and thoroughly deserved – well done Alan!”

Commenting on his award win, Alan said: “Winning this award, especially for the second time, is a fantastic achievement. I started from scratch here at Leestone Park, so it’s an amazing feeling to see new family homes being completed on a regular basis, and how far the development has already come.

“There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a job well done every time we hand over a home which surpasses the customer’s expectations. This isn’t just an individual award to me; it’s a true testatement to the whole team’s hard work and dedication. I’d like to thank them all for their continued support over the past year and a half.”

We have one of the industry’s best records for training and developing its staff, and as a member and patron of ‘The 5% Club’, we are committed to ensuring at least five per cent of its work force is made up of apprentices, graduates or sponsored students. Yet in practice, the business already goes far beyond this as 15 per cent of the total workforce are trainees.

Leestone Park offers the ideal balance of rural living and great connections to surrounding towns. The centre of Leighton Buzzard is just a mile and a half away from the development, and the handy train station means you can travel to Milton Keynes in less than fifteen minutes. In due course, there are also plans for a new lower school and local centre to be built on the development, as well as an orchard and plenty of open spaces – perfect for families.
