Redrow site manager John Smith is ‘delighted’ after winning a coveted industry award.
John, 60, who is based at Redrow’s Allerton Gardens, in South Liverpool, has been recognised at the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2021, receiving a ‘Quality’ Award for his outstanding efforts.
He said: “It’s the award I have been striving to achieve for years and I am absolutely delighted to have won this.
“The Pride in the Job is one of the most respected awards in the industry, and to have waited for such a long time to get it makes it all the more sweet.”
Launched just over 40 years ago, the accolade is highly regarded in the housebuilding industry and celebrates the exceptional contribution site managers make in creating homes of outstanding quality.
John, who’s from Walton, Liverpool, but now lives in Halsall, has worked for Redrow since 2004, taking charge of several sites.
A joiner by trade, he has worked for a number of construction companies and, latterly, an architectural glazing company, before joining Redrow’s North West division.
“There is no other company that gives you the encouragement that Redrow does to help you achieve,” added the father-of-two. “I am working on the best site, I have a great assistant site manager – Megan Woodburn – and we have the best team. I am so proud of them all.”
And John revealed: “I had thought my chance of awards had gone. Three or four years ago I developed bowel cancer. I was off work for over three months while I had chemo and radiotherapy plus major surgery.
“I guess having my health is the best award of all – but to be back at work and to be given a Pride in the Job is definitely the icing on the cake.”
With more than 16,000 managers in the running for the awards and only 450 chosen by the NHBC across the UK this year’s winners - selected for their excellent standards on site - represent less than 3% of those who entered.
Phil Reeves, construction director for Redrow’s NW Division, said: “This award is testament to the exceptional standards that John and his team have worked hard to achieve. John has come through a lot in the last few years, but his commitment has never wavered and it’s to his total credit that he has won this award this year – and we are delighted for him.”
John is one of 24 Redrow site managers recognised this year. All Quality award winners now go forward to compete for a coveted Seal of Excellence this autumn.
Matthew Pratt, Redrow’s Group Chief Executive, added: “The last year has been challenging for everyone. It’s a testament to the fantastic work and commitment from our team that our site managers, like John, have picked up so many awards, and especially when considered proportionately against the number of homes we have built this year.
“I am extremely proud of all of them for upholding the high-quality standards that Redrow is renowned for during this time, and I wish them the very best of luck for the next round in the autumn.”
