Redrow tops 400 local computer donations

9th February 2021
Redrow - News - North West - Laptop Donations

We’ve made our 423rd computer donation to local schools from our headquarters in Ewloe, north Wales, with help from local MP, Rob Roberts.

We’ve been donating IT equipment to Flintshire schools and community organisations from our head office since 2018.

The donation programme was paused by the Coronavirus pandemic as the IT team focused on enabling our 2300-strong workforce to work remotely, but they still had 50 further laptops to donate.

Then local MP, Rob Roberts got in touch and provided a welcome solution, as he has been liaising with local businesses to provide laptops for local schools. He collected the laptops from Redrow House in St David’s Park to deliver to the local schools whose home-learning pupils were most in need of equipment. The schools will then check the computers are wiped, load the required software and pass them on safely to those pupils to take part in online learning.

“For us, providing still useable IT equipment to schools and the community is a win-win,” explained Stephen Rooke, our IT Supply Co-ordinator whose team co-ordinates the donations.

“We’re serious about sustainability, not only as we build homes but also in how we work as a company, so the reuse of our laptops is important. We also try to support our local communities in genuinely useful ways, so we’re really grateful to Mr Roberts and Flintshire County Council for their help in getting the laptops to local young people who need them.”

“It’s fantastic to see companies like Redrow and others who have helped in similar ways giving back to the communities in which their employees live,” said Mr Roberts.

“The challenges of COVID-19 have seen these companies really step up and provide vital assistance, in this case ensuring that local children are able to learn effectively. I can’t thank them enough for being so willing and eager to help when we got in touch recently, and when the laptops reached the schools last week the gratitude of the teachers was quite something. Huge thanks to you all.”

The schools that received the equipment are Gwynedd CP School in Flint; Ysgol Bryn Gwalia and Argoed High School in Mold; Ysgol Derwenfa, Leeswood; Northop Hall CP School; and Ysgol Gymraeg Mornant, Penyfford in Holywell.
