Site manager Ian Robertson has won a top industry award for his ‘exceptional’ work at Kings Moat Garden Village in Chester.
Recently promoted to area construction manager, Ian, 37, from Maghull, Liverpool, was one of our 24 site managers recognised in the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2021, receiving a coveted ‘Quality’ Award for his outstanding efforts.
Launched just over 40 years ago, the accolade is one of the most highly regarded in the housebuilding industry and celebrates the exceptional contribution site managers make in creating homes of outstanding quality.
Ian said: “I am over the moon to have won, not just for me but for the lads on site. There’s a lot of pride in what they do, and they do everything how I want them to do it and as cheesy as it sounds, that’s really heart-warming.”
With more than 16,000 managers in the running for the awards and only 450 chosen by the NHBC across the UK, this year’s winners - selected for their excellent standards on site - represent less than 3% of those who entered.
It’s a huge achievement for Ian who worked as a labourer as a teenager and became an apprentice joiner when he left school, qualifying in his trade before climbing the career ladder. He joined us eight years ago as assistant manager at Lancaster Place in Widnes, rising to site manager after just a year.
Ian, who has just been promoted to area construction manager overseeing four sites – including Roman Green at Kings Moat Garden Village– has won the Pride in the Job Award twice before.
“It’s great because it gives you self-confidence,” adds Ian. “You know you are doing the right job, and a good job. It’s recognition for me and for the guys who work with me, especially my assistant site manager Danny Woolley. And, after the last 12 months, it’s even better to get a Pride in the Job Award.”

All Quality award winners now go forward to compete for a highly prized Seal of Excellence this autumn.
