Our Eastern division has acquired a 39-acre parcel of land on Church Street in Bocking to the north of Braintree, Essex. With a GDV of £110 million, we’ve purchased the site with outline consent to deliver 265 homes, including 30% affordable housing.
This latest acquisition will further expand our presence in the East of England, bringing the number of active and forthcoming sites to ten.
In and around the Braintree area, we’re currently delivering hundreds of new homes at Rayne Gardens in Braintree, Meadow View in Silver End and The Mulberries in Witham.
This recent purchase will see the land at Church Street, Bocking, transformed into a 265-home community, showcasing a mix of three- and four-bedroom family homes from our award winning Heritage Collection, which takes inspiration from the early 20th century Arts & Craft movement seamlessly blending traditional exteriors with bright, modern, and spacious interiors.
The new homes will sit within areas of green open space and a community orchard will be planted on site.
Braintree offers vast open countryside living, as well as a vibrant town centre that is filled with shops and restaurants and is a short distance from Colchester. Connections to London take an hour from Braintree station.
Tom Hughes, Head of Land at the Eastern division, commented: “This land acquisition marks the first for the division since I came into the role in late 2020 and is part of our strategic approach to identify immediate and strategic land opportunities across Hertfordshire, Essex, Suffolk and North and East London. Braintree is a fantastic area for local buyers and those wishing to move out of the capital and upsize. It is well-connected, while being semi-rural which perfectly chimes with the shift in lifestyle priorities we have seen as a result of the pandemic.
“We are already very familiar with the local area, delivering several schemes in and around Braintree, and we are confident this latest offer of high-quality new homes will prove just as popular with those stepping on or up the property ladder. ”
We’ve acquired the site from Gladman Developments with outline planning consent, and an application is being prepared for detailed consent on the proposed 265 home scheme.
