And buying their new home at our Whitehall Grange development in New Farnley, means they can do their bit to make the world a more perfect place too.
“We’ve created a lawn and a seating area in the garden, and we’ve got borders for flowers and shrubs, but we’re going to have a little wild garden to attract wildlife and bees, etc. too,” said Rebecca, 42.
“Our daughter Lois, seven, loves animals and wants to be a vet, and she’s passionate about ladybirds and other insects.”
But looking after the environment isn’t just about supporting Lois.
“We own a children’s nursery and one of the reasons we moved was to be nearer to work so we could walk there and reduce our carbon footprint,” said Rebecca.
“Our new Redrow home has an energy A-Rating so it’s more efficient, and we’re already noticing it’s a much warmer, cosier house, without even having the heating on. Our son Tom, 12, is now at high school so we wanted him to be more independent and be able to walk to school. Being here gives him the opportunity to do that safely, and Redrow is creating more pathways to make it even safer.”
The couple, who own Kidspiration Childcare and Education Limited, in Lawns Lane, had previously lived on the other side of Farnley, in a four-bedroom detached home.
“Our old house was looking tired and in need of work,” said Darren, 53.
“We wanted a four-bedroom detached, but with a private driveway at the side of the house and a separate garage. We looked at other developers, but Redrow stood out for quality and all the finishing touches and details, like the high ceilings and bigger doors and the layouts of the homes. It ticks all the boxes and there’s more that we didn’t have before, including a local Co-op, tennis courts, a pub we can walk to and me and Lois have fed the horses across the road form the development. It’s lovely.”
Darren and Rebecca chose a Cambridge detached property – one of our top five popular designs – with an open plan kitchen, dining and family room which spans the full width of the house, a separate lounge, and a utility and cloakroom on the ground floor. Upstairs there are four double bedrooms, the main with luxurious en-suite.
“We love the family space at the back and we live in that; we love being together, we love the kitchen, we love looking out onto the garden, it’s perfect,” said Rebecca.
Upstairs Rebecca and Darren have the main bedroom, soon-to-be-teenager son Tom has the other front bedroom with lots of space, and Lois has the third bedroom at the back ‘because she wanted a garden view so she could look out at the birds and the flowers’. The fourth bedroom is an office/ playroom for Lois.
The couple were inspired by the Cambridge show home which they fell in love with and which gave them a host of ideas for their house, from floor to ceiling curtains to the way the furniture was laid out and styled: “We sold all our old furniture and bought new so we could fit it out like the show home,” added Darren.
And they were impressed by the wide-ranging choices they could choose from our My Redrow upgrades and options, selecting Amtico parquet flooring for the kitchen, dining and family area and carpeting throughout the entire home.
They chose an upgraded quartz kitchen work surface, tiling for the bathrooms, brushed chrome lights and sockets, a fire and fire surround for the lounge, sliding wardrobes, and more.
“We created a spreadsheet with a wishlist,” said Darren. But Rebecca adds: “This is our forever home, and it’s everything we wanted.”
From the reservation to moving in in July, the couple continued to be impressed with the help and support they got from us. They sold their house straight away after using our Help to Sell scheme through which our estate agent partners do a lot of the work to market and sell a would-be buyers’ current property.
And the sales team kept them up-to-date with everything, and made it known they were always there to answer any queries.
“Redrow have been brilliant from start to finish and I’d highly recommend them. We’re looking forward to watching the kids growing up here, and growing together as a family,” says Rebecca. “And we’re trying our best to get my mum to move here now too!”
The show homes at Whitehall Grange are open and available for viewing seven days a week between 10am and 5.30pm. To find out more about Whitehall Grange visit our website or call the sales team on
